It all started in 1992 when I commenced my career in heating at The Heat Shop and Tile Centre in Nelson. Over the course of the next five years I learnt all there was to know about wood fires and also became a proficient tiler.
In 2001 I moved to a sales rep role for a wood fire manufacturer and for the next 15 years spent half my life away from home driving around New Zealand.
Over the years, in conversations with the Heating Retailers I realised that there was a lack of availability of high quality, customisable fireplace hearths. In 2016 I was over being away from home so thought I would engage the skills I learned back in the 90s and address the gap in the market by establishing Smokin Joe hearths.
I am a small owner operator company specializing in manufacturing quality made ash floor protectors in a wide variety of types that satisfy my customer’s needs. Custom fire hearths are a big part of my business as many homes require a bespoke hearth solution to fit within existing walls and floor coverings.
